Keepers of the Sacred
Flame Fire Clan is an eclectic community-focused group who follow a myriad
of life paths. We tend the sacred fire whenever and wherever we're asked.
We lead the drumming circle for the fire dancers, the chanting, and we
teach all who ask about the Sacred Flame found within each and every one
of us. We dance the Dance of Life with honor and joy. And, we honor our
lives as opportunities to learn and grow as the Spiritual Beings we are,
and are evolving into.
We are the epitome of our
Ancestors every bit as much as we are the compilation of the life lessons
we've experienced thus far in this lifewalk. Without our Ancestors, we
would not even exist. Without our Ancestors, we would not have the
knowledge of who we do, or do not, wish to be. Without our Ancestors, we
would be as ships floating on the Ocean of Life withour rhyme, reason or
direction. Without our Ancestors, we would have no identity. Therefore, we
honor our Ancestors at tall times for who we have been, who we are now,
and who we will become in our future lifewalks. Aho!
What is a Fire Clan?
A Fire Clan is whatever
each Fire Keeper chooses to make it. It can be a group wholly devoted to
tending the Sacred Fire, or it can focus on other life-affirming
activities.
In our case, we opted
to follow the vision of our Fire Keeper, Aislinn Awatake FireHawk and work
on building bridges throughout our community and beyond. Our vision is to
bridge the gaps throughout our community and to reach out to other
communities to help in whatever ways, great or small, that they seek.
Don Waterhawk is the
initiator of the Fire Clans across the country and has offered many Fire
Sticks to Fire Tenders of various festivals.
The Story of the Sacred Fire
The telling of the
story of the fire is the telling of the story of the evolvement of
humanity. No longer does humanity have to sit cowering in the cave of
darkness. No longer does humanity have to fear what may come out of that
darkness. And, no longer does humanity have to sit wondering and waiting
for the light of day. Yet, even though humanity has had the knowledge of
the sacred flame for eons, many have chosen to ignore this light and keep
their minds and hearts in darkness. This darkness is truly a much
easier path, and all the children of the work have this option amongst the
many choices they face each and every day. At one time in your Lifewalk
you chose this darkness, filled with fear, insecurity, and anger. You are
a source of light, just as all of humanity is a source of this light. The
difference lies in the commitment to allow your light source to shine
forth that others may see this and realize that they, too, are a source of
light. There will be those that fear your light and will run and hide from
its brilliance. If you allow yourself to get caught up in their fear,
which is not of you but of themselves, you will be pulled under like being
caught in a strong current, and will find yourself drowning in the same
pool of self-absorption, self-doubt, and self-pity. Know also, that your
responsibility ends with the planting of the seed of light. How another
nurtures and tends that seed is their responsibility, and they must stand
accountable for their own actions or their lack of actions. Many will
cross your path - you will plant many seeds - but few will allow the seed
all it needs to flourish and grow. You must accept this without
self-reproach and continue on your journey, planting the seeds of
spiritual enlightenment and tolerance as you walk your own road of beauty.
